In Freebording lingo, the term rocker refers to the distance the edge wheels are raised above the ground. This effect is what gives riders the ability to drift, carve, and slide the board in a lateral motion. The motion of sliding a Freebord is different from a longboard or traditional skateboard because unlike kicking out a power slide, sliding on a Freebord is about shifting weight from edge-to-edge. Just like snowboarding, you can apply more pressure on an edge to control your stopping power. The Freebord 5-X was designed to replicate the feeling of snowpack underneath your board.

In addition to the four edge wheels, the Freebord has two additional center wheels on the board’s centerline that rotate 360 degrees. The center wheels are slightly closer to the ground than the edge wheels. This is what simulates the base of a snowboard allowing riders to initiate slides in any direction, check their speed or stop like they would on snow.

By positioning your weight over the board's edges you can carve deep turns. Shift weight to the base, and—just like a snowboard—it slides, allowing riders to check speed, navigate tight terrain, drift a 180 into switch or come to a complete stop.
